ROADWAYS & BRIDGES

Roadways

Lotspeich and Associates, Inc. (L&A) has performed ecological assessments for numerous roadway and linear transportation projects throughout Florida.  The scope of services for these projects has included early corridor evaluation, PD&E (and Roadway Conceptual Analysis - RCA in Orange County), and final design studies.  L&A has also supported numerous miscellaneous design contracts, re-paving  projects, and sidewalk enhancement projects.  L&A understands its role as part of a project design team - from the early research necessary to submit a Letter of Interest (LOI) through the presentation and selection process, and finally with the scope and man-hour negotiation process.  Our administrative support process ensures that our involvement with the project team is seamless, and that the client/agency is fully supported through all phases of the project.

Our knowledge of the roadway design process, along with our natural systems and regulatory experience, provides L&A a unique opportunity to support all sizes and types of engineering and planning firms throughout this process.

Bridges

L&A has performed ecological assessments of bridge corridors for numerous projects throughout Florida. The scope of services for these projects involves a general overview of the corridor, identification of wetlands requiring permits, threatened and endangered species surveys, preparation of the environmental portion of the permit submittals, jurisdictional reviews with regulatory agencies to confirm the extent of jurisdiction, and selection of final alignment alternatives.

Final alignment evaluations include aerial photo-interpretation of the entire study corridor, on-site reviews to validate photo-interpretation, an assessment of any protected plant or animal species, and subsequent site specific surveys where necessary. An Ecological Assessment Report is submitted to the prime consultant for submittal to the client. The report includes sections on assessment methodology, results, suggested alternatives, and specific permitting requirements of the USACE and Water Management District(s), as well as any special issues such as Navigational Clearance from the U.S. Coast Guard, Outstanding Florida Waters designations, and/or Wild and Scenic Rivers designations from the State of Florida.
